In a surprising revelation, Keanu Reeves has disclosed that he’s married, but not to his longtime girlfriend Alexandra Grant. Instead, the lucky spouse is fellow actor Winona Ryder.
Actors often go to great lengths to make their scenes authentic, but it seems Ryder and Reeves may have taken realism to a new level. The duo starred together in Francis Ford Coppola’s 1992 film, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, where their characters tied the knot in a genuine religious ceremony. The priest hired for the film was a real clergyman, showcasing Coppola’s commitment to realism, even in a vampire-themed movie.
Reflecting on the unconventional ceremony, Reeves remarked in a previous interview with Esquire, “Winona says we are. Coppola says we are. So I guess we’re married under the eyes of God.”
Ryder, too, shared her perspective on their unique three-decade-long marriage, stating in a 2018 Entertainment Weekly interview, “We actually got married in Dracula.” She emphasized the authenticity of the scene, revealing that a real Romanian priest officiated the ceremony.
Despite this cinematic marriage, Reeves and Ryder have never signed any official documents, making their union binding only in the “eyes of God,” as Reeves clarified.
Although close friends, the two actors have never been romantically involved, even reuniting on-screen in the 2018 movie Destination Wedding. Reeves is currently happily involved with artist Alexandra Grant, whom he first met in 2011.
Grant, a 51-year-old artist from Ohio, has an extensive career in the arts, with her work displayed in prestigious spaces globally. The couple’s collaboration includes Grant providing artwork for Reeves’ volumes of poetry, such as Ode To Happiness and Shadows.
Reeves recently shared a heartwarming glimpse into his relationship with Grant in an interview with PEOPLE. Describing a recent moment of bliss, he said, “A couple of days ago with my honey. We were in bed. We were connected. We were smiling and laughing and giggling. Feeling great. It was just really nice to be together.”
Despite the unconventional start to his ‘marriage’ with Ryder, Keanu Reeves seems to have found genuine happiness with Alexandra Grant, creating a love story that goes beyond the bounds of cinematic realism.
